The Expanding Story of Brain Champ NZ

June marks the beginning of winter in Aotearoa—a season of stillness, reflection, and new beginnings. As Matariki rises in the night sky, we are reminded of the importance of remembering where we’ve come from, celebrating where we are, and planting dreams for where we’re going.

At Brain Champ NZ, this season beautifully mirrors our own journey. What began with visual memory techniques designed to help students excel in their studies has now grown into something far deeper: a holistic movement for wellbeing across all stages of life.

Rooted in cognitive stimulation and creative learning, Brain Champ’s services have expanded to meet the needs of both the young and the young at heart. What started with flashcards, storytelling, and memory games for students has evolved into therapeutic recreation, aged care consultancy, cultural training, and event coordination that celebrates joy, connection, and meaning.

We now offer:

  • Therapeutic recreation coaching for older adults, especially those with cognitive decline

  • Holistic programs grounded in the Te Whare Tapa Whā model of wellbeing

  • Coaching and training for Diversional & Recreational Therapists

  • Contract services for care facilities needing help with assessments and culturally responsive care planning

  • Memory-making events—weddings, birthdays, reunions—that engage hearts and stimulate minds

And there’s more on the way.

Because at the heart of therapeutic recreation is story. And stories are what make us human.

In the months ahead, watch out for new stories shared through our blog—from Ms Bing’s global wellness adventures to young Arrow and Axe’s playful path to growth. These stories will showcase the power of therapeutic recreation in action—how it heals, connects, and transforms lives in ways big and small.

As Matariki calls us to reflect and reset, we invite you to journey with us. The spark that started it all has become a guiding star—lighting the way for memory, movement, and meaning.

Here’s to what’s next. And to the stories still waiting to be told.

He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata he tangata he tangata!

What is the most important thing in this world; it is people, people, people!
